Pulsed Media Seedbox and Storage Features
Pulsed_Media seedboxes and storage boxes run on PMSS (Pulsed Media Seedbox Solution), a seedbox management platform built and maintained since 2010. PMSS is open source under GPL v3. Every feature listed here ships on every shared seedbox and storage box plan unless noted otherwise. A few features need a minimum amount of RAM; the notes say which.
Every seedbox and storage box runs on hardware Pulsed Media owns, inside datacenter infrastructure Pulsed Media owns and operates in Finland. No rented servers, no reselling.

Media Server Stack
The media stack installer sets up seven applications in your account. On the welcome tab of the web panel, the Install Media Stack button runs the first install without SSH. Reruns and options go over SSH with install-media-stack.sh.
| Application | Purpose | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Jellyfin | Media server | Stream your media library from your seedbox. Software transcoding via FFmpeg. |
| Sonarr v4 | TV show automation | Monitors RSS feeds, downloads new episodes automatically, organizes and renames files. |
| Radarr | Movie automation | Same as Sonarr but for movies. Searches indexers, grabs releases, renames. |
| Prowlarr | Indexer manager | Central indexer configuration for Sonarr, Radarr, and other *arr apps. |
| SABnzbd | Usenet downloader | NZB processing with automatic repair and extraction. |
| Autobrr | Release grabber | Picks up new releases from IRC announce channels and feeds, then hands them to your download client. |
| Cloudplow | Cloud upload | Automated upload to Google Drive, Dropbox, or any Rclone-supported target. |
The installer handles:
- A login with a generated password for every web app, on by default. The passwords are saved to
~/.media-stack-credentials.txt, readable only by you. - Random port assignment (no conflicts between users)
- Lighttpd reverse proxy configuration: each web app is reached over HTTPS at
/public-USERNAME/APP/, and the app's own login decides who gets in - tmux session management (attach/detach without killing apps)
- All apps bind to localhost; none listens on a public port
The welcome tab lists each installed app as Protected or Exposed, depending on whether the app has its own login set, and offers a Secure this app action for exposed ones (what the badges mean). A cron job tracks the media-stack apps and records repeated failures, and the panel's restart-all button starts any app that has stopped.
Memory: the full stack needs about 900 MB of RAM. The installer stops on accounts with less than 1024 MiB, so it does not fit the free trial (250 MB) or storage boxes (500 MB). Jellyfin needs FFmpeg 4.4 or newer, which Debian 12 servers provide.
Pre-Installed CLI Tools

Docker (Rootless)
Docker rootless is installed on all servers. Each user runs their own Docker daemon without root privileges, and a cron watchdog keeps it running. Other users and server security are not affected. Debian 12 servers also include the Docker Compose plugin. When an account moves to another server, its rootless containers move with it.
Containers that work well rootless on PMSS:
| Category | Containers |
|---|---|
| *Arr automation | Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, Readarr, Bazarr, Prowlarr, Jackett, FlareSolverr, Unpackerr |
| Media servers | Jellyfin, Emby, Tautulli |
| Request management | Overseerr, Jellyseerr, Ombi |
| Download automation | autobrr, cross-seed, NZBGet |
| Media (specialty) | Audiobookshelf, Navidrome, Kavita, Calibre-Web, Mylar3 |
| File management | FileBrowser, Nextcloud, Syncthing |
| Dashboards | Homarr, Portainer, Uptime Kuma |
| General | Databases, web apps, APIs, anything with a Docker image |
HTTPS for your containers: bind the container to 127.0.0.1 and add a short proxy fragment to your own lighttpd in ~/.lighttpd/custom.d/. The container is then reachable at https://SERVER.pulsedmedia.com/user-USERNAME/APP/. There is no automatic per-container subdomain; each container gets its own fragment. Step by step: Serving a Container Over HTTPS. Self-Hosted Apps on PMSS lists 39 applications that run this way, with the path setting and login default of each.
Rootless limitations to know:
- Ports below 1024 require remapping (e.g.,
-p 8443:443instead of-p 443:443) - VPN containers (Gluetun, Tailscale) need
NET_ADMINcapability, which rootless cannot grant. Use the native WireGuard or OpenVPN instead. - GPU/hardware transcoding needs device access not available in rootless. Software transcoding works fine.
All LinuxServer.io images support PUID/PGID environment variables for correct file permissions in rootless mode.
File Transfer Protocols
Seven file transfer protocols work out of the box. No configuration needed.
| Protocol | Implementation | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| SFTP | OpenSSH / ProFTPD | Encrypted file transfer. Most common method. Works with FileZilla, WinSCP, Cyberduck. See Seedbox_access_via_FTP,_SSH_and_SFTP. |
| FTP / FTPS | ProFTPD | Legacy protocol. FTPS adds TLS encryption. Per-user isolation. |
| SCP | OpenSSH | Single-file transfers over SSH. Fast for individual files. |
| rsync | Via SSH | Incremental sync. Transfers only changed bytes. Best for large collections. |
| WebDAV | lighttpd mod_webdav | Mount your seedbox as a network drive. Access at /webdav-USERNAME.
|
| HTTP / HTTPS | lighttpd | Direct file download via browser. SSL/TLS encrypted. |
| SSHFS | Via SSH | Mount your seedbox filesystem locally. Appears as a local drive on your computer. |
Web Hosting and Stable URLs
Every account has a public web folder, separate from the password-protected panel. The web hosting guide covers it in full.
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Public web folder | Files in ~/www/public/ are served without a login at /public-USERNAME/. PHP works out of the box.
|
| Public subdomain | USERNAME.SERVER.pulsedmedia.com serves the same folder.
|
| mcx.fi permalink | A permanent hostname per service that follows the account when it moves to another server. See Permalinks on PMSS. |
| HTTPS certificate | Run ~/bin/createWebPublicCerts once over SSH for a Let's Encrypt certificate covering the permalink. Add --with-username-hostname to include the subdomain, which publishes the username in public certificate logs. It renews automatically.
|
| Custom domain | Put your own domain in front of the public folder: Custom Domains on PMSS. |
| Your own lighttpd rules | Fragments in ~/.lighttpd/custom.d/ add your own rules, such as a reverse proxy to a container: Lighttpd Custom Configuration.
|
VPN
Two VPN types route your traffic through the seedbox's IP:
| VPN | Features |
|---|---|
| WireGuard | A ready-to-import profile in ~/wireguard.txt. More devices: add their public keys to ~/.wireguard-public-key and the server adds them as peers automatically. Cron watchdog keeps the tunnel up. If your home directory has no ~/wireguard.txt, open a support ticket. Setup guide.
|
| OpenVPN | Client configuration download on the welcome tab of the panel, where it is labelled Beta. |
Both VPN services bind traffic to the seedbox's IP address, so your home IP is never exposed to peers or trackers.
Web Interfaces
| Interface | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Custom WebGUI | Tabbed dashboard. Service status, resource usage, quick links to all installed apps. Also on the welcome tab: a button that restarts all your services, a torrent configuration backup you can download and restore, and opt-in usage alert emails (traffic at 80% of the allowance, disk at 90% of quota, or a media-stack app down). New customers: dashboard guide. |
| Shell console | A shell in your browser, running as your own account. No SSH client needed. Optional persistent tmux session that keeps running after you close the panel. |
| Media stack panel | Install button, per-app Protected/Exposed status, and recovery for stopped apps. |
| ruTorrent | Torrent management with 41 plugins. The primary torrent interface. |
| Web File Manager | Upload, download, rename, move files through your browser. |
| Rclone WebUI | Manage cloud storage transfers. Toggle on/off. Browse remote storage, start transfers, check progress. |
| Stats Page | Traffic graphs (Chart.js), service status indicators, resource monitoring. |
All web interfaces are served over HTTPS with automatically renewed Let's Encrypt certificates.
Storage
RAID Protection
| Product Line | RAID Level | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| V-series (V10G, Value1000) | RAID 0 | Maximum speed and capacity. No redundancy; a single drive failure means data loss. |
| M-series (M1000, M10G, M10G Storage) | RAID 5 | One drive can fail completely without data loss. Automatic rebuild when replaced. |
| SSD lines (M1000 SSD, M10G SSD) | RAID 0 | SSD speed, no redundancy. |
| Dragon-R (semi-dedicated) | RAID 10 | Mirrors every drive for redundancy plus striping for performance. Fewer users per server. |
RAID 5 starts at EUR 6.99/month (M1000 S, price as of 6 October 2026). RAID protects against a failed drive; it is not a backup.
Storage Types
| Type | Available On | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| HDD | All shared plans, storage boxes, Dragon-R, MD MiniDedi | High capacity. Toshiba and HGST enterprise drives. |
| SSD | M1000 SSD, M10G SSD lines | RAID 0. From 230 GiB to 3,640 GiB. |
Quota System
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Base quota | Linux quota with enforcement. Your plan's advertised storage. |
| Burst quota | 25% perishable overage. Temporarily exceed your quota during a grace period, useful for grabbing a large torrent before cleaning up space. |
| Bonus quota | Grows over time. The longer you stay, the more disk space you accumulate. |
Traffic
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Monthly allowance | Rolling 30-day traffic measurement. Only outgoing (upload) traffic counts; downloads into your box are not metered. Varies by plan. |
| Internal traffic | Free. Transfers within the datacenter (between PM servers) do not count against your quota. |
| Post-quota | Past the allowance, outgoing traffic of every protocol (torrents, SFTP, FTP, HTTP) is held at 100 Mbit/s. It is never cut off. The limit lifts automatically after three days back under the allowance. |
| Extra traffic | Purchasable as an add-on. From 4TB to 90TB extra per month. |
Network
| Tier | Connection | Available On |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Gbps | 1 Gbps | M1000, M1000 SSD |
| 10 Gbps | 10 Gbps | M10G, M10G SSD, V10G, storage boxes |
| 20 Gbps | 20 Gbps | Dragon-R semi-dedicated |
All traffic flows through Pulsed Media's own network (AS203003) in Finland.
Monitoring and Auto-Healing
PMSS runs 20+ cron jobs that watch services, restart them when they stop, and enforce per-account limits. rTorrent, Deluge, qBittorrent and the per-user web server are checked every one to two minutes.
| Job | What It Does |
|---|---|
| checkRtorrent | rTorrent process health. Auto-restarts on crash. |
| checkDelugeInstances | Deluge daemon and WebUI. |
| checkQbittorrentInstances | qBittorrent process. |
| checkRcloneInstances | Rclone WebUI daemon. |
| checkLighttpdInstances | Per-user web server (lighttpd). |
| mediaStackInstancesCheck | Media-stack apps. Records their state and flags repeated failures. |
| checkRootlessDocker | Docker rootless daemon per user. |
| checkWireguard | WireGuard VPN tunnel and its loaded peers. |
| wireguardPeersRefresh | Adds peers from users' ~/.wireguard-public-key files.
|
| checkDirectories | Filesystem integrity. Ensures user directories and config files exist. |
| checkGui | Web panel files for each user. |
| systemdServicesGuard | Keeps unwanted system services stopped. |
| processWatchdog | Runaway ffmpeg and HandBrakeCLI transcodes. |
| cgroupRootCheck | CGroup hierarchy validation. |
| storageHealthSnapshot | SMART, NVMe and RAID array health snapshots. |
| mdadmCheckarray | Quarterly RAID consistency check on arrays that still have redundancy. |
| diskIostat | Disk I/O statistics collection. |
| cpuStat | CPU usage monitoring. |
| certbotRenewalCheck | SSL/TLS certificate expiry. Auto-renews via Let's Encrypt. |
| webPublicCertsProcess | Issues the opt-in certificates for public web hostnames. |
| quotaSnapshot | Quota state recording. |
| trafficLog | Per-user traffic logging. |
| trafficLimits | Applies and lifts the post-allowance traffic limit. |
| iopsLimits | Enforces the monthly disk I/O (IOPS) budget per account. |
| processSnapshot | Process state snapshots. |
| resourceLog | CPU, memory, I/O, and disk resource logging. |
Every shared plan includes all of these. This is not a premium add-on.
Published Performance Data
Pulsed Media publishes measured performance for every seedbox plan at pulsedmedia.com/server-performance.php, and the same figures as JSON in the public data feeds. The numbers are observed load and disk I/O on live servers, not hardware maximums.
Security and Isolation
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Process isolation | hidepid=2 on /proc. Users cannot see each other's processes.
|
| User slices | systemd CGroup enforcement per account: a soft and a hard memory limit, CPU and disk priority weights set by plan tier, and a monthly disk I/O (IOPS) budget. Per-plan numbers: resource tiers. How disk sharing works: disk priority. |
| SSL/TLS everywhere | Let's Encrypt certificates with automatic renewal. All web interfaces served over HTTPS. |
| Authentication | htpasswd for web access. SSH key authentication supported. |
| Localhost binding | Media apps (Sonarr, Radarr, Jellyfin, etc.) listen on localhost only. They are reached through the lighttpd reverse proxy, so each app's own login is what protects it. Installs since August 2026 set that login up with a generated password; the welcome tab marks any app without one as Exposed. |
| Docker rootless | Per-user Docker daemon runs without root privileges. Users can run containers without compromising server security. |
| No root access | Users get SSH shell access at their own privilege level. Root is never provided on shared plans. |
AI CLI Tools
Three AI coding assistants are pre-installed system-wide. Run gemini, codex or claude from any shell. Each needs your own API key or account; no root required.
| Tool | Provider |
|---|---|
| Gemini CLI | Google (portable Node.js) |
| Codex CLI | OpenAI |
| Claude Code | Anthropic |
Configurable Add-Ons
Most plans can be extended with add-ons, chosen with a new order or added later to the service you already have. What is offered, and at what price, depends on the product line. Prices are monthly, in EUR, as of 8 October 2026; the order page shows the price for each billing cycle and in your own currency.
Space, traffic and memory
| Line | Extra Disk | Extra Traffic | Extra RAM |
|---|---|---|---|
| M1000 | 450 GiB – 1,800 GiB: 0.99 – 3.99 | 1,000 GiB – 30,000 GiB: 2.50 – 24.99 | 500 MiB – 8,000 MiB: 1.99 – 14.99 |

On the SSD lines, extra disk carries a one-time setup fee of 9.99 and extra traffic one of 4.99 – 39.99.
Performance
Extra CPU threads raise your account's CPU limit. They appear only on plans that have a CPU limit, and they can only use cores the server has free; run nproc over SSH to see how many cores yours has. CPU priority and disk IO priority give your account a larger share of the server's CPU time or disk time while the server is busy; on a quiet server they make no difference. Storage boxes are sold for space rather than speed, so their performance add-ons cost double.
| Line | Extra CPU threads | CPU priority | Disk IO priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| M1000 | +2 – +6: 3.99 – 9.99 | +100 – +400: 0.99 – 3.99 | +100 – +400: 9.99 – 99.99 |

If you pay by PayPal automatic payment, adding or removing an add-on ends that automatic payment, and your renewals then come as invoices to pay. How adding and removing works: upgrading or downgrading your service.
MD MiniDedi servers have their own order options, such as bandwidth, instead of these add-ons.

Client Area Self-Service
Each seedbox and storage box has a service page in the client area (Services → My Services, then the service). Its buttons cover the common jobs without a support ticket. A button appears only on services where it is available.
| Button | What it does | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Login to service | Opens the service's dashboard. | Getting Started with the Seedbox Dashboard |
| Show password / Resend seedbox details | Shows the current login on the page, or emails the login details again. | Knowledge Base |
| Generate new password | Sets a new random password for every login of the account (web panel, SSH/SFTP, FTP, torrent clients) and emails it. | Knowledge Base |
| Restart account | Restarts every program in the account, SSH sessions included. | Restart account |
| Diagnose | Checks the account and the server it runs on and sends you the results. | Diagnose on PMSS |
| Recreate/Rebuild Service | Rebuilds the account on the same server; the data folder is kept. |
Recreate Account on PMSS |
| Reprovision | A new, empty account on a different server; all files are deleted. | Reprovision on PMSS |
| Create transfer key | Creates a one-time key another Pulsed Media account uses to take over this service. | Knowledge Base |

Pulsed Media runs the stack itself, from the rack and the network up to the user interface.
What Makes This Different
Pulsed Media is the only seedbox provider known to own and operate its own datacenter infrastructure, rather than colocating in, or reselling, someone else's facility. On that hardware runs a managed platform: the software on this page comes pre-installed and monitored, and the linked guides cover the do-it-yourself parts.
What stands out at these price points:
- RAID 5 from EUR 6.99/month — RAID 10 on Dragon-R
- One-click media stack — seven apps from a panel button, every web app with its own login switched on
- 20+ monitoring and self-healing cron jobs — torrent clients and the web server are checked every one to two minutes
- 100+ pre-installed CLI tools — ffmpeg, mediainfo, mkvtoolnix, borgbackup, rclone, ZNC, screen, tmux, and more. Ready on first login.
- Published performance data — measured per plan on live servers, with a JSON feed
- Bonus disk quota that grows over time — the longer you stay, the more storage you get
- 25% burst quota — temporarily exceed your disk limit without losing data
- Own datacenter infrastructure and hardware — no rented servers, no reselling
- PMSS open source — the platform running your seedbox is auditable on GitHub
- SMART and RAID monitoring — drive health snapshots plus a quarterly RAID consistency check
- Docker rootless — run containers in user space, serve them over HTTPS through your own proxy rules, and keep them when your account moves
- Web hosting with stable URLs — public folder, PHP, and an mcx.fi permalink that survives server moves
- Monero (XMR) payments — direct, no BitPay, no ID requirements
- AI sysadmin (Väinämöinen) — a production AI agent that diagnoses, fixes, and responds to support tickets 24/7. Not a chatbot script. An autonomous agent with real infrastructure access and memory of every past issue.
Plans start at EUR 6.99/month for 2 TB on RAID 5 with 2,000 MiB of RAM (M1000 S), enough for the full media stack. A free trial runs when slots are open.
