Diagnose on PMSS
Seedbox feeling slow, or something not working, and you are not sure whether it is your account or the server? The Diagnose button on a Pulsed Media seedbox service page checks both at once and emails you the figures, with no support ticket. Your account result goes only to you. The server report goes to everyone on that server, so a busy or healthy server is visible to all of its users at the same time.
The same page has a Request a PMSS update button, described below.
How to diagnose
- Log in to the client area, open Services → My Services and click the service.
- Click Diagnose and confirm the dialog.
That is all. Your account result arrives by email at your account's email address, so product emails must be turned on in your email preferences to receive it. The server report is emailed too; if product emails are off, it reaches you as a support ticket in your client area instead.
What you get
Your account result
An email only for you, about your own account:
| Line | What it checks |
|---|---|
| Disk space | How much of your disk quota is in use. Nearly full from 95%. |
| Torrent client | Whether your torrent client is running. |
| Web server for your panel | Whether the web server behind your panel is running. |
| Web panel | Whether the panel answered and how fast. Slowly means three seconds or more. |
| Memory | How much of your account's memory limit is in use. High from 90%. |
An overall line follows: your account looks fine or your account needs a closer look. When something needs a look, the email says what you can do, such as pressing Restart account on the service page or freeing disk space. If the account could not be checked, the email says so.
The server report
A report on the server as a whole, emailed to every customer on it. It says that a customer on the server asked for it and never names who. It does not look at anyone's files or settings.
| Part of the report | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| What we checked | Time spent waiting on disk, disk response time, a disk latency test, the disk array and the drives' own self-tests, each marked OK or ATTENTION. Not available on this server means that check could not run there. |
| Compared with other servers | This server's figures next to the median of servers on the same plan, from Pulsed Media's public fleet figures. Half of all servers on a plan sit above their median, so higher alone is not a problem; the checks above say whether a figure is in its healthy range. |
| What needs a closer look | What each ATTENTION means in practice, for example that downloads can feel slower at busy times. |
| Reviewer note | All clear or needs a closer look, sometimes with a short note from Väinämöinen based on the same figures. |
| Report id | Quote it in a support ticket if your service does not work as expected. |
If a report on the same server went out in the last 72 hours, you get that report again instead of a new one, together with your fresh account result. Nobody else is emailed twice.
A busy server shares its disks fairly by plan; disk priority explains how.
When no server report is sent
Only you get an email, and it says why:
- our monitoring was missing some of the measurements a report needs;
- the check found something that our team reviews itself rather than through an automated report;
- the check could not be completed.
Request a PMSS update
PMSS is the software that runs the seedbox server. Our nightly maintenance updates it across the fleet. Request a PMSS update asks for an update of your server now. The server is updated only when all of these hold:
- it is at least five changes behind the current version;
- its disks have not been very busy over the past week;
- no update was tried on it in the last 24 hours.
When it is updated, everyone on the server gets an email with the list of changes since its previous version. When it is not, only you get an email saying why.
Limits
- Diagnose: once per 30 days per account. Request a PMSS update: once per 7 days per account. After a request, the button is replaced by the date you asked and the date you can ask again.
- The service must be active.
- A user logged in to someone else's account sees the buttons only with the View & Modify Product Passwords permission.
- The buttons appear only on services where they are available.
- While the account is moving to a new server with Reprovision, requests are not accepted until the move has finished.
Troubleshooting
| The page says | What it means |
|---|---|
| A diagnosis was requested for this account in the last 30 days. | The 30-day limit applies. The service page shows the next possible date. If you need a check sooner, open a support ticket. |
| A PMSS update was requested for this account in the last 7 days. | The 7-day limit applies. Our nightly maintenance keeps updating the server meanwhile. |
| This account is being set up on a new server. | A Reprovision move is running. Ask again when it has finished. |
| Your login does not have permission to request a diagnosis. | Ask the account owner for the View & Modify Product Passwords permission. |
| The request did not go through. | Try again later, or open a support ticket. |
No email after a request? Check your spam folder, and that product emails are turned on in your email preferences.
Diagnose, restart, recreate or reprovision?
| Button | What it does | Your files |
|---|---|---|
| Diagnose | Measures your account and its server, changes nothing | untouched |
| Restart account | Restarts every program in your account, SSH sessions included | untouched |
| Recreate/Rebuild Service | Rebuilds the account on the same server | data folder kept
|
| Reprovision | An empty account on a different server | deleted |
Diagnose first: it costs nothing, changes nothing, and answers with measured figures instead of guesses. See the Pulsed Media seedbox plans.
