Virtual Private Server
This is not a real dedicated server, but rather a slice on a server. It acts and feels mostly like an dedicated server but it is actually virtualized as a container. Depending upon the technique used there might be some limitations to what you can do compared to dedicated server, for example OpenVZ does not allow custom kernel.
