On most Linux servers the nameservers are in /etc/resolv.conf Edit this file, with for example vim
vim /etc/resolv.conf
Format of the file is nameserver a.b.c.d, example resolv.conf with google dns servers:
nameserver 8.8.8.8 nameserver 8.8.4.4
