Disk array

A disk array is a storage system that contains multiple hard disk drives (HDDs) or solid-state drives (SSDs), often configured for increased performance, capacity, or reliability. Disk arrays are typically used in enterprise environments, data centers, and network-attached storage (NAS) systems.

Disk arrays may implement:

  • Redundancy via RAID
  • Hot-swapping capabilities
  • Performance enhancements via striping or caching

Disk arrays can be managed via software (e.g., mdadm) or hardware RAID controllers.
