SFTP is Secure File Transfer Protocol or sometimes called SSH File Transfer Protocol. SFTP is a network protocol much like FTP is, except SFTP operates via a SSH tunnel with it's own daemons etc. In technical level FTP and SFTP does not share much, but in practical use they are very similar.
